Tools: Beginning Meditations
Beginning is simply showing up.
Everyone begins somewhere, and there is no right or wrong way to meditate. Consider meditation an opportunity to be fully present with this moment, regardless of how you are experiencing it. These guided meditations will help you calm the body and gently focus the mind.
As thoughts arise, notice them with compassion and simply return your attention to the meditation, releasing all judgment. There is nothing you need to achieve. Just show up with curiosity and allow the practice to unfold naturally.
Allow yourself to begin just as you are, trusting that each meditation is an opportunity to deepen your awareness and cultivate a grounded, openhearted, and clear-minded presence. Over time, meditation naturally shifts from a practice to a way of being fully present.
Beginning
The following meditation is for those just starting to meditate. Find a comfortable chair where your back is also straight. It should be a place where you will not be disturbed for 6 minutes. That includes no phones or pets that might disturb you. If you are not comfortable closing your eyes, then have them slightly open with a soft gaze towards the floor.
Focusing
Focusing meditations are designed to help calm the busy mind and tense body by relaxing the muscles then giving you something to focus on such as your body, breath, or phrase. These are particularly important in moving from Survival Mode into Thriving.
