Thrive and Awaken® Tip
Our ego naturally focuses on Doing. It seeks safety through achieving, accomplishing, producing, and proving. These capacities have served us well throughout life, but over time we can become attached to them. Our doing begins to define our identity and validate our sense of worth.
Meditation gently invites us into a different way of living.
It’s not another task to accomplish or another goal to achieve. It is a practice of Being with whatever arises in this moment. Thoughts, emotions, sensations, distractions, and stillness are all welcomed with Complete Acceptance. Each time the mind wanders, we simply return to the breath or a quiet phrase, giving the body and mind a place to rest from all the doing.
With continued practice and choosing, we begin to discover that our value is not found in what we accomplish, but in the simple presence of who we are.
As our capacity for Being deepens, we become more Grounded, Openhearted, and Clear-Minded. From this place, our actions become less driven by fear and more guided by wisdom and compassion.
Awakening does not ask us to stop doing. It invites us to discover that every moment of doing can also become an opportunity to practice Being.
Reflection
As you move through your day, notice when you become caught in doing to feel productive, successful, or worthy. Pause for a single breath. Rest in simple awareness before continuing.
Allow your doing to arise from Being rather than letting your Being depend upon doing.
