Thrive and Awaken® Tip
Tip: Create the space for creativity
Creativity is one of the great forces of human evolution. Every new idea, discovery, work of art, and invention, begins with our capacity to imagine something that does not yet exist. Creativity allows us to move beyond what has been and discover what might be.
In Survival Mode, our awareness naturally contracts. Fear and uncertainty narrow our attention toward what is familiar, predictable, and safe. We are more likely to rely on established assumptions and habitual ways of seeing a problem. This narrowing has value when we need to protect ourselves, but it can also limit our ability to recognize new possibilities.
As we Thrive and Awaken, our awareness begins to open. We become more grounded and less driven by the need to immediately know, control, or judge what emerges. This creates an inner environment in which creativity can flourish.
We can cultivate this space by bringing Compassionate Curiosity to new ideas. Rather than quickly deciding whether something is right or wrong, practical or impractical, we remain curious: What else might be possible?
We also practice Complete Acceptance, allowing ideas to emerge without requiring them to be useful or fully formed. Creativity often begins with something incomplete, awkward, or seemingly unrealistic. Acceptance gives an idea room to develop before we decide what to do with it.
It’s also helpful to temporarily suspend judgment. Discernment is essential, but it often belongs later in the creative process. If we evaluate every possibility, we will close the door before something genuinely new has emerged.
And creativity requires more than openness. It asks us to focus and persist. Inspiration may open the door, but bringing something new into the world often requires patience, experimentation, revision, and the willingness to keep going when the path is unclear.
Perhaps creativity is not something people possess and others do not. It appears to be a natural capacity that becomes increasingly available when we foster the conditions for it.
As we become more Grounded, Openhearted, and Clear-Minded, we create more space for possibilities to emerge. And in doing so, creativity becomes part of how we evolve individually and collectively.
Reflection
Where might Survival Mode be narrowing what you are able to imagine?
Consider something in your life that feels stuck or unresolved. Rather than trying harder to find the answer, experiment with creating more space around it. Become grounded. Get curious. Suspend judgment. Completely accept what emerges.
Then ask yourself, “What becomes possible when I don’t have to know the answer?”
