“Why am I so triggered?” “I choose not to personalize someone else’s judgment.”
What does Self-Inquiry look like in Survival, Thriving, and Awakening modes?
Survival Mode
In Survival Mode you see yourself as separate and reactive.
Your inquiry is focused on what is wrong with me.
Compassion for yourself is lacking.
Thriving Mode
In Thriving Mode you want to feel more connected with yourself and others.
Your inquiry is focused on how to manage your triggers and live your potential.
Compassionate Curiosity is essential.
Awakening Mode
In Awakening Mode you engage in an open-ended exploration into the immediacy of your experience.
You begin to inquire into who’s the I that you’ve taken yourself to be.
Self-Inquiry Reflections
Self-Inquiry in Thriving Mode is kindly recognizing what doesn’t work for you and then exploring what might be possible. It asks: What is resonant with a deeper knowing of myself. Take some time to reflect on these common Self-Inquiry questions. This type of Self-Inquiry is moving you towards a wholeness or oneness with yourself and others.
Is this emotion, thought, or behavior working for me?
What is keeping me in that pattern?
What are alternate ways to respond that would be more effective?
Who do I know that has those qualities I aspire to?
What am I doing or not doing to acquire those qualities?
How can I actively integrate those thriving qualities?
Compassionate Curiosity and Self-Inquiry go hand in hand.
When paired with Compassionate Curiosity, Self-Inquiry is a tool that will help you choose how to think, feel, and behave. You can learn how to show up in a loving way for whatever you or someone else is experiencing. It’s essential in having a thriving community.
