Thrive and Awaken® Tip

See if you can feel into this one. Who are you without your thoughts? Explore what emotions and physical sensations emerge. Are you calm or anxious? Do you want to think your way through this puzzle? Likely, yes. Thinking is an amazing tool, but we can become over reliant upon it to the sacrifice of our heart and belly centers.

Researchers have found neurotransmitters in our hearts and guts, which means they also contribute to our awareness. To a large extent our culture hasn’t appreciated the intuition from these centers, instead favoring the rational and logical mind. While thinking is vital, it also limits us. It appears our ancestors were much more attuned to their relationship with nature. Their focus on the needs of the physical body was heightened because their survival depended upon it.

Being present without thought is why meditation can be so challenging for many people. Try meditating a couple of times for just five minutes. Tune in to the space between the thoughts. Notice how that feels. Are your heart and belly engaged? Who are you without thoughts?
